October Half-Term Holidays in Paphos: A 7-Day Family Itinerary

21st Sep 2026

A week in Paphos can accommodate several kinds of family holiday: beach afternoons, Roman history, leisurely lunches and days when nobody wants to leave the pool. October half-term is a useful time to combine them. There is enough to fill seven nights without hiring a car for the entire stay or booking an excursion every morning.

For families staying at Mayfair Hotel & Gardens, this itinerary includes six full days between arrival and departure. The emphasis is on choosing worthwhile outings and making room for the hotel facilities you came to enjoy.

What October means for your plans

Paphos in October usually brings warm days, cooler evenings and a greater chance of showers as the month progresses. Bring swimwear, but give a jumper and a light waterproof some suitcase space too.

School holidays vary across the UK, and half-term demand can push up fares. Compare the whole journey: flight times, baggage and transfers. An evening arrival makes the first night mostly about dinner and bed; an early return flight effectively removes departure day from the holiday.

Day 1: Settle into Mayfair

Unpack, find your way around and have dinner. That is plenty for arrival day.

Room layout makes a difference on family holidays in Cyprus. A separate living area gives parents somewhere to sit after younger children fall asleep. Mayfair Hotel’s one-bedroom suites accommodate up to four, while Mayfair Gardens has two-bedroom family accommodation for up to six. Both properties share the resort’s facilities, so choosing your room does not mean choosing a separate set of pools and restaurants.

Day 2: Get your bearings at the harbour

Start with Paphos Harbour and make the castle your destination. Following the waterfront gives children a clear endpoint, with boats to watch along the way. Leave time for an ice cream or a drink rather than reserving the entire morning for sightseeing.

This is also a useful day to decide how much walking suits your family. Use a taxi for one leg if necessary. Our Paphos travel guide explains the main areas and attractions, including the distinction between the harbour and Old Town.

Day 3: Give the mosaics a morning

Kato Paphos Archaeological Park deserves its own visit. Start with the House of Theseus, where a mosaic depicts the hero fighting the Minotaur. It gives children a recognisable subject to look for among the Roman floors and geometric borders.

For younger children, turn the visit into a looking game. Who can find an animal first? How many colours make up one section? Older children can think about the rooms these floors once decorated and what they reveal about their owners.

Allow roughly 90 minutes as a starting plan, with water and proper shoes. A shorter, attentive visit can be more rewarding than working through every sign.

Day 4: Take the beach bag to Coral Bay

Make Coral Bay your dedicated beach outing. Take buckets, spades and a picnic if you want to spend several hours there; travel lighter for a swim and lunch out.

For this itinerary, a bus or taxi avoids committing to a week’s car hire for one beach trip. Agree on a return pickup if travelling by taxi.

Choose the day’s swimming around the beach flags and conditions. October can still offer enjoyable beach afternoons, but this is the day to swap if the forecast looks wet.

Day 5: Stay at the hotel—and enjoy lunch

By midweek, give everyone a day without a departure time. Mayfair’s kids’ club caters for children aged four to 12, while older children have the teenagers’ hub. Pick an activity from the October programme or spend the morning together by the pool.

There’s no need to go far for lunch. At our restaurants and bars in Paphos, choose a buffet meal at the Alexander Restaurant or pizza, gyros and fruit from the Alfresco Snack Bar. Having meals close at hand is one of the practical pleasures of all-inclusive holidays in Cyprus: lunch fits around the family’s day.

Day 6: Browse Paphos Old Town

Start around Kennedy Square, then browse the shops along Makariou Avenue. Old Town gives this morning a different focus from the seafront: shopping, cafés and a proper lunch break. Choose one souvenir together before finding a table.

Try ordering a few dishes to share: grilled halloumi, a salad and souvlaki make an approachable introduction to Cypriot food. Children can taste something unfamiliar without committing their entire lunch to it.

Day 7: Choose your final outing

Offer the family two options: another beach visit or the Tombs of the Kings. The latter adds something different from the mosaics, with underground burial chambers carved into rock.

Back at Mayfair, finish with dinner at the Alexander Restaurant. Its themed evenings include Cypriot, Greek and Italian menus; see which falls during your stay.

Day 8: Breakfast and departure

Pack most belongings the night before and keep the airport bag separate. For an early flight, arrange your transfer in advance so the morning needs little organising.
